Why monthly donors are special

By Mark Weber

As a new member of Onward’s board of directors, I have a lot to learn. But, after more than 10 years as either a nonprofit administrator or board member of another nonprofit, I do know at least one thing: fundraising is scary.

It’s scary for a nonprofit because the invitation to support a cause is never universally accepted. Some people give; others do not.

It’s scary because an organization’s mission for the next year can rise or fall on the success or failure of a fundraising campaign of just a few weeks.

It’s scary because a person’s decision to give or not give is influenced by so many things – the fluctuations of the economy or stock market, health concerns, competing charitable interests, and a host of additional factors.

The monthly donor

Thankfully, there is something called the monthly donor, also called the sustaining donor. These are generous and committed supporters who set up a monthly donation via their credit card or automatic transfers from their bank account.

Monthly donors help take the scary out of fundraising by:

  • Providing Onward a steady and stable source of funds to help young people gain the skills and confidence to live independently.

  • Signaling their ongoing faith in the program’s impact and allowing it to expand.

  • And, growing a special community of Onward supporters who are committed to making a difference on an ongoing basis.

Becoming a monthly donor

Onward’s online donation platform makes it simple to set up a monthly gift. You can even choose to cover the payment processing fees!

Becoming a monthly supporter isn’t for everyone. In the end, any gift, given in any manner, is treasured.

If you are a monthly donor to Onward, thanks! If not, we hope you’ll show your faith in the organization and become a monthly donor today.
