Creating homes. Launching lives.
Anna’s story
Anna* spent most of her life in foster care.
When she turned 18, she aged out of the system and needed a place to live.
She had a job in retail that she liked and found a home at Onward House.
We change life trajectories.
Young adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability have a hard time achieving their goals. By disrupting the cycle of homelessness, we are changing the life trajectory of each person we serve and helping them get back on track to meet their academic, employment, health and life goals.
Homelessness creates hurdles.
The 2017 Voices of Youth Count Survey of 18 - 25 year-olds in Hennepin County who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability reveals the following.
58% have spent time in juvenile detention or foster care, or both.
39% report that they are currently attending school.
40% report they are currently employed.
We engage our community in our work.
By engaging our community in conversation about young adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability, we are changing lives. Awareness of the need and support for our work grows each year. Here are some of the ways we measure that growth.
We present regularly to community groups to educate them about homelessness in our community.
Scores of community members have volunteered their time to help us with everything from home maintenance to board leadership.
