Asha’s story: Finding hope and stability at Onward
I met Asha at Onward House. Her story inspires me. It reminds me how important it is to make our community aware of Onward House. It motivates me to grow our program to serve more young people in our community.
18 and nowhere to go
Asha faced a difficult situation. Her parents told her she had to leave home as soon as she turned 18. With nowhere else to go, she reached out to her school counselor, who connected her to a social worker. That’s how she found her way to Onward House. Asha moved in 10 days after her birthday, ready to find stability and build her future.
At Onward, Asha found more than a place to stay. She found the stability she needed to pursue her goals. Among other things, she:
Graduated high school
Found a job she loves
Started working toward her dream of becoming a teacher.
Today, she works at a childcare center, where she feels part of a supportive community. She says it’s one of the best jobs she’s ever had.
Safe. Stable. Hopeful.
Living at Onward gave Asha the time and space to focus on herself. She made close friends, took part in activities like cooking lessons, and received support for her mental health. For the first time in years, she felt safe, stable, and hopeful about her future.
Now, Asha is excited about what’s ahead.
Her story shows how having a safe, supportive home can change everything for a young person.
With your help, Onward can keep giving young people a safe place to live, support, and the tools they need to succeed.
