Onward is here for young people like Anna

Anna* spent most of her life in foster care. When she turned 18, she aged out of the system and needed a place to live. She had a job in retail that she liked and found a home at Onward House. She lived here for several months and formed supportive relationships with the other residents.

Anna was doing well and decided to take the next step in her life by moving in with her significant other. A few months later, as part of our aftercare services, our case manager reached out to check in with her. We discovered that Anna was in an unhealthy living situation and invited her to come back to live at Onward House.

Anna was empowered to leave the unhealthy situation because:

  • She knew and trusted our staff person

  • She knew she would be truly welcomed back to the Onward community

Donate today to make a difference in the lives of young adults experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

We build trusting, long-term relationships with our residents

Many of our residents have felt alone for their entire life. At Onward House, they:

  • Develop long-term, trusting relationships with our staff and other residents

  • Get the supportive services they need

  • Begin to feel valued and cared for by the broader community, thanks to the generosity and support of volunteers and donors

When Anna moved back into the house, the other residents rallied around her and welcomed her return.

Today, Anna is stable and on the path to thriving. She has a new job as a manager in retail. One thing she loves to do is support the other residents by cooking dinner for them so they have a warm meal to come home to after work.
